Ambro Body Kit

$4,495.00

Alexander Racing Enterprises, has recently constructed a new Ambro and at the same time is offering kits to the public. A.R.E. has gone to some length to design a body support system and other pieces to help the home builder build out a new Ambro car. A.R.E. offers a new chassis frame that is better than the original in material andconstruction. The story of the Ambro... “Ambro (Ltd) built one complete racing car as well as a number of fiberglass bodies that were sold to special builders. Partners William Aldrich-Ames and Dewey Brohaugh assembled the first car in 1961. Both were experienced SCCA racers from the Minneapolis area. The chassis was a modified TR-3 powered by a highly modified TR-3 engine with SU carburetors. Widened Triumph steel wheels were fitted. The fiberglass body had strong Maserati Birdcage and Lister influences; in fact some of the body panels were molded on Don Skogmo’s T-61 Maserati. The molds were eventually destroyed accidentally during production of an Ambro body. Bill Bonadio, working with Bill Ames in the early 1990s, made another set of molds and the bodies were produced under the name Dio Tipo 61. In 2007, A.R.E. (Alexander Racing Enterprises) acquired the rights to the Ambro name and the production of the Ambro fiberglass bodies. The Ambro bodies are currently being produced and distributed by A.R.E.. A new Triumph frame is available, as an option, as well as other performance and trim components. A donor car (TR3-4A) is desirable for final assembly of the rolling chassis. The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) Technical Director stated these Ambros will be accepted as entries, as long as they present themselves substantially the same as existing examples. Ambros are also being built as street cars. The original AMBRO was returned to the Twin Cities area, from Oklahoma. It underwent extensive restoration and is being raced by it’s owner, Doug Karon. Bill Ames personal Ambro, built late in his life, was willed to his son Robert. Robert Ames developed the sports racer to another level and then sold it, after racing it for a few years with RMVR and VARA. It is now being raced on the East coast. A third Ambro, based on the Peerless chassis with a Triumph engine, is being raced on the West coast, including the Monterey Historics".
